Three Kings Celebration in Seville

ama3On January 5th, 2013, Dominique and I went to Seville, FL for the ‘Three Kings’ celebration. We, as YAYA, work in solidarity with the Allianza de Mujeres Activas (AMA) or the Alliance of Active Women in Seville on many different events: workshops, bike deliveries, and the sharing of resources.

In the Three Kings celebration, we delivered ‘school kits’ or exercise books, and other educational tools for the children of the people in AMA. There were also clothes, and other supplies donated for the organization to distribute to their members.

It was really exciting connecting with AMA as I was there last year to do a couple of theater workshops, and I was there for the bike delivery during winter of 2011. Saying jokes and impromptu dance parties were usually the regular when we visit but Saturday we just sat back and talked about life. It was really cool. These are great women who seek to empower other women in their community and it was very exciting being around and contributing.

After the celebration, we all relaxed, and ate traditional Mexican bread, making sure not to cut the piece with the wax figure of a child inside (or else you’ll have to make tamales for everyone.)

Thank you AMA for continuing to allow us into your community. We hope to continue working with you in 2013
