A message from the Vermont Workers’ Center:

Racial profiling leads to two Vermont dairy farmworkers being taken in detention by Vermont State Police.

We just received a report that Danilo, a leader of Vermont Migrant Farmworker Solidarity Project (website: http://www.vtmfsp.org/), and another farmworker were passengers in a car on the way to work where the driver was pulled over for speeding. Upon seeing brown skinned passengers, State Trooper Hatch ask for their ID and proceeded to call Border Control. This was a clear violation of the Vermont State Police’s own Bias Free Policing Policy (online:http://vtmfsp.org/sites/default/files/VTStatePoliceBiasFreeProcedures.pdf)

The two farmworkers are now being held at Middlesex State Police Office apparently waiting to be taken away from border control.

Please call State Troop Commander Daniel Troidl at 802-878-7111 and State Police Commissioner Keith Flynn at 802-241-5000 to leave a message urging them to follow their own Bias Free Policing policies and to stop the deportation of Danilo and his co-worker.

More info: Call Brendan O’Neil at VTMFSP at 802-825-1609.
