We ask you to continue to support members of Familias Unidas por la Justicia (FUJ) so they get a fair, transparent negotiation process and a clean election that will lead to a union contract. PLEASE CONTINUE TO MAKE CALLS TO SAKUMA. CLICK HERE FOR CALLING INFORMATION.
NFWM joins Familias Unidas por la Justicia in being encouraged that Sakuma Bros. has taken the step in saying they are ready to negotiate for a union election on the farms. This forward movement comes because of the courage and determination of the workers AND because of the tremendous support which all of you have given to the boycott and to FUJ’s campaign. The postcards and pickets and phone calls and more – our solidarity has brought FUJ to this great moment.
Unfortunately, Sakuma has already acted in ways which warrant caution, including misstatements in their July 8th press release. But we are pleased to report that on July 14, FUJ leadership met with Sakuma CEO, Dan Weeden for the first time. Ramon Torres, President of FUJ said, “The meeting with Sakuma Bros Berry Farm happened and it was a productive meeting. We look forward to continuing the dialogue.”
A great step has been won by FUJ and their supporters, BUT we must continue to put pressure on Sakuma so that during this process the company acts in good faith all along the way. For up to date actions, please regularly visit facebook: National Farm Worker Ministry and Familias Unidas por la Justiacia.
Thank you.
