In addition to supporting national campaigns, YAYA also supports local farm workers who are organizing to make a difference in their communities and workplaces but that don’t necessarily have the visibility of the larger farm worker unions and organizations.
We encourage you to develop a relationship with the farm workers who live near you.
The strength of any community depends on the strength of the relationships between its members, and since farm workers are responsible for putting food on our tables, they play an especially vital role in society. Supporting local farm workers as they organize for justice is an important way to recognize their contributions to the community!
What YAYAs are doing
YAYAs are building relationships with local farm workers by:
- Organizing and attending community events such as soccer games, trainings, posadas, bike deliveries, and community meetings
- Volunteering in community gardens and teaching English
- Babysitting and translating to allow farm workers to attend the meetings and trainings necessary to organize
- Creating educational materials to raise awareness about issues such as immigration
- Inviting local farm workers to speak in their communities (churches, schools, etc.)
- Supporting local farm workers’ campaigns in any way possible
