Giving Thanks Bodies-Territories-Worlds Prayer Activity

Inspired by: Dr. Claudio Carvahles Praying With Every Heart

Written by Trinity Long, NFWM Summer 2024 Duke Divinity Intern

Leader says directions out loud (insert language as needed) while demonstrating the actions:

  1. Raise your hands to the sky and stretch upwards. One can thank God, your creator, the sky, the sun, rain, and everything that fills the skies.
  2. Give a bow, showing respect to all those around you. Show gratitude to those around you, the people in your life, those who serve you, the people who go unseen, our bodies, parents, and more. (whatever context)
  3. Kneel on the ground, or at least touch your hands to the ground. Thank the Earth, the soil, the worms, for the resources, feeding us, and the people who take care of the Earth like our farmers and farm workers.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 once more, or as many times as needed.

Conclude with small prayer or the words “Thank you for all parts of our human experience, may we continue our relationship with all creation. Amen”
