On August 3 in Delano, California farm workers will launch a grueling 335-mile “March for the Governor’s Signature” urging Governor Gavin Newsom to sign the Agricultural Labor Relations Voting Choice Act (AB 2183). The march will go through 24 valley cities and towns and end on August 26 at the state capitol in Sacramento.
States need to protect free choice and reduce intimidation and retaliation against workers exercising their rights. AB 2183 would provide more choices in how farm workers vote in union elections. The bill would give more choices to farm workers so they can vote free from intimidation. Farm workers would be able to vote in secret whenever and wherever they feel safe. NFWM and other faith partners have written to the governor urging him to sign the legislation.
Gov. Newsom proclaimed Aug. 26 California farm worker appreciation day. He can show his appreciation by signing AB 2183.
If you or your faith group is interested in participating in this march alongside farm workers and the UFW, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. We are also looking for people who can provide support services for the farm workers along the way (housing, meals, etc.)
