“The farm worker movement has to stay connected to the faith community,” said Baldemar Valasquez, President of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee. “It’s the churches that have helped us get where we are. In 53 years of organizing, the cornerstone of having a moral base has been more important or as important as anything else to allow the farm worker movement to survive to this day.”
The National Farm Worker Ministry has two kinds of organizational participation, member organizations and supporting organizations. A denomination, religious order, regional farm worker support group who accept the mission of NFWM, provide a representative on the board of directors, pledge annual financial support to its programs and will utilize its name and networks to support farm worker campaigns can join NFWM. The NFWM is grateful to these dedicated, thoughtful, and faithful individuals and organizations. Their commitment to supporting farm workers’ fight for dignity and justice is an inspiration.
