¡Presente!

Honoring those we’ve lost

Presente. In Spanish, it means “present or to be present.” It is a tradition in Central America to use the word as a sign of honor and respect of those who have passed. The tradition has continued to honor farm workers who have needlessly lost their lives as a result of unjust working conditions and those who have been in solidarity with farm workers in the fight for justice.

Presente is about remembering and calling on the names of those who have passed because they are with us in the struggle going forward,” said NFWM Board Member David Wildman, who represents Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.
