Tens of thousands of farm workers come to North Carolina every year to labor in the tobacco fields. Most lack the protections that a labor contract can provide and fear firing and deportation if they raise concerns about abuses in the fields. Big Tobacco companies like Reynolds American have built their fortunes on the backs of these immigrant workers.
For over a year, FLOC has been seeking to meet with Reynolds to discuss ways in which the workers and the company can come together to improve conditions in the fields, but the company has refused to meet with FLOC leaders.
Support the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) and tobacco workers at the Reynolds Tobacco’s Shareholders Meeting. Join us on May 6th. Call 919-489-4485 or email at ajones@nfwm.org to find out more information or let us know that you’d like to participate in the day’s activities.
