Food Worker Awareness Panel on 11.8

On Thursday, November 8th at 8:00 pm, YAYA members will be participating in a Farm Worker Awareness Panel discussion at Rollins College in Winter Park. The event is part of the Food Chain Workers Alliance‘s efforts to raise awareness about the issues faced by the people who pick and prepare our food.

Participate in the International Food Workers Week, join us on Novemember 8th at Rollins College!

The hour-long event will begin by viewing a 10 minute documentary clip called “Naranjeros” about orange pickers in Central Florida, focusing on issues of immigration and labor conditions.Then, there will be a panel of speakers representing different organizations that work with farm workers.

Emily Helm, a member of Orlando YAYA, will represent the group on the panel. Other panel members will be Jeannie Economos from the Farm Worker Association of Florida in Apopka, and possibly farm workers. The panel will take questions from attendees, community members who are interested in a fair food system. The event will be held in the Reeves Lodge at Rollins College.

This event is free and open to the public.
