This fundraiser soccer game will support the work of AMA and NFWM-YAYA while strengthening the relationship between our communities.

AMA is an organization of farm worker women who are fighting to improve the safety, well being, and health of their community. They offer workshops, cultural programs, and provide assistance and referrals for low-income families in Volusia County.

For the past four years AMA and NFWM-YAYA have been working together on many issues facing farm worker women in Volusia County.

One of the projects that we are most excited about is AMA’s pesticide theater project. YAYA worked with AMA to create the set for the play and, last year, YAYA  facilitated pesticide_play2two theatre workshops to teach AMA members about theater and acting. AMA’s play educates farm worker women on the harmful effects of pesticides on their bodies, especially women’s reproductive systems. The play, Pesticides and Cockroaches, has been presented three times to almost 100 people. The next presentation is scheduled for this June! Don’t miss it!

Will you make a donation to ensure that more farm workers can see this play?

In March 2012, Hit the Fields for Farm Worker Justice II raised enough funds to pay three months rent for web_DSC_0358 AMAthe AMA office, a space that they need in order to continue their amazing work. After six years of using members’ homes, this office has provided a much needed space for meetings and events. Will you help us secure funds for three more months of rent and two months of internet service?

Our objective for this soccer event is to raise $3,750. These funds will not only help to sustain AMA’s current work, but will also support YAYA’s continuous solidarity work with farm workers across the nation. NFWM-YAYA believes that issues in the fields are best addressed when farm workers organize mlk march11themselves in their own communities. Our mission is to continually support these efforts.

YAYA has educated and mobilized hundreds of people in support of farm worker organizations, such as the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, the Coalition of Immokalee WorkersUnited Farm Workers, the Farm Worker Association of Florida, and of course the Alliance of Active Women. These farm worker-led organizations are changing the agricultural system by organizing and empowering their members. YAYAs ensure that they have allies and friends in the non-farm worker communities where YAYA is organizing.

In addition, YAYAs advocate for immigration reform that will ensure fair conditions and legalization for farm workers. Read our reports to learn more about YAYA’s work on immigration reform, education, leadership development, and community building with farm worker communities.

Your sponsorship is fundamental to our movement. Join us in this effort to bring allies and farm workers closer together while  raising funds to sustain our work for justice. Our lives depend on farm workers and their labor. Sponsor a player TODAY!

If you want to attend the game, please RSVP on Facebook. Transportation will be provided from Orlando.
